This text is fresh to say the least. His thought behind the basics of his kit are clear and logical...even the stimulant stuff. Watch carefully the section on fire starting. He does several pages on matches including selection, striking, waxing, containers, etc. His detail here is amazing compared to most texts which essentially say carry some matches. It is very clear that he has thought about these tools in a teaching mode rather than a telling mode....very nice. He then goes on with magnesium and flint bars, lighters, magnifiers etc. If anyone reads this book and does not come away with a fine appreciation of the importance of firelighting then they really did not read it!
This book has got to be one of the best on the shelf for both its fresh perspective, clear language, and attempt to teach. It has much more to offer in my view than many or most of the texts you can find at bookstores or libraries.
