hahaha, that has been my rather limited experience with them too!

You two should go get you some .50 BMG rifles then, if power is your definition of "effective". It's not always about power, I personally enjoy good accuracy no matter how much power is behind it. I have a lot of fun shooting my little .177 caliber 7.4 grain pellets at 500fps for target practice. Deadly accurate, but probably not enough oomph to wound a cricket. Olympic-class air rifle shooters are shooting at 10-rings that are 0.5mm in diameter (that's "ultra fine pencil lead" size). And they hit it. Repeatedly. From 10 meters away. Try that with a rock.

That was fascinating. I'm an airgun fan, and I have taken a lot of rabbits and squirrels with my Winchester 1100 FPS .17 cal pellet rifle. I didn't know about big bore airguns.
