Places to avoid

OK a little fun here or possibly a list of sensitive locations to avoid. The google maps virtual view and the descriptions listed for the security installations are pretty interesting. wink

The US Navy installation in a dull London residential street is pretty bizarre.

Even better places to avoid -

The buildings that don't appear on maps, but you know that are there. And they have nice men outside to guide you on your way should you become lost. Don't even think about taking pictures.

We used to call one "the building that's not there" when giving directions. Odd that it's not on maps, but a lot of people know where it is.

I install security systems, fire alarm systems, CCTV, and access control systems. I've been a few places and seen a few things. Some places with no name on the building and a "money's no object" budget for security.

After looking at the link, I also realize I've been to a lot of those places listed. It's a small world.

There's a building on south Ocean Ave, or maybe it's Nieman Way, I forget, right around where you transition from Santa Monica to Venice. It's about a 4 story older looking building on the ocean side of the street, all the old tall windows complete bricked up, no sign, no address, and a heavy looking steel door entrance. No sign of any activity at all, but meticulously maintained and Fort Knox looking. There are rumors that it is the world headquarters of Hot Dog on a Stick.

Having lived in military/diplomatic towns the general assumption is that while some activities may be aggressively anonymous and unmarked the more secret the activity the more likely it will be just aggressively nondescript. The entire place working very hard to create no impression, or to stand out, at all. Being neither unmarked, conspicuous in its being unnamed and unmarked, nor identified in any way that might cause anyone to take interest.

I have been to a few of those places. The only one I would really avoid is McGuire AFB in NJ. That is because I was there for over four years. There is a truly evil cloud that hangs over that place. The ground water is suspect too.

I don't think so. I know for a fact that Harry Perry lives under a tie-dyed tortoise shell up in the belfry of the Hare Krishna Center by the Rose Cafe. He survives on all the leftover cookies from the Cafe, and never combs the crumbs out of his beard. And that's why he never actually gets a date with any of those girls he skates after and tries to sing nonsense words to. No one knows this, but Harry's also the guy at Venice Beach that lays down on the big pile of broken glass and let's people stand on his stomach. Neither he nor the guy who lays on the broken glass will actually admit to this out of embarrassment for the other.
