that's a little more like it.i ran across a gear list for the park rangers in Canada who wintered over in the 30's 40's just north of the area i canoe in and their list is a lot like that.

Two friends of mine built a cabin on the flanks of the Brooks Range in Alaska as winter was coming on. They told me they were consuming 6000 calories a day and losing weight. Must be the hard work and cold.

Grand adventures always sound much fun, so romantic. I's easy to forget, or misunderstand, how much hard work is required just to survivea.

Regarding the author's revised list: I found it interesting how much more comfort food he added to the trapper's list. I suspect that after a couple of decades of living like that, the need for such creature comforts is over.
