Some things you just can't prepare for. I know when I am in a tree stand, I usually don't have more than three arrows or three rounds of ammo up there with me. The video is not great, but it makes you think.

Now there are 4 p*ssed of bears out there who associate human beings as pointless aggressive predators who kill just for the pleasure of killing. These bear hunters don't do anything to make the woods any safer for the rest of the normal folks out there. This fool got off lightly.

The bears have learned that humans are a source of pain and suffering rather than the easy meal they thought was up in the tree. This is exactly what park rangers are trying to teach bears so as to avoid future bad human/bear encounters.

He was deer hunting, what idiot goes bear hunting with a bow?
Didn't you find it strange that he fought the bears off with his feet and voice instead of his weapon?

Are you a PETA member or something?

For the record black bears in MI are very timid and encounters are rare, attacks even rarer. This guy smelled like food and bears and food are like sharks to blood. Once the cubs showed up mama bear did what mama bears do when their cubs are in trouble.

Well, the video had little in the way of relevant details.

Here's a link to a couple of more informative articles (scroll down a bit). I'll let you read them both and you can make your own judgments.

What we know is this:
1) he was hunting for deer
2) he may not be the fleetest wing in the bucket o' herbs and spices.

Actually, I met a guy on a recent camping trip that was doing just that. For the record though, something was a little off with that guy. Anyway, unless you're into the Japanese art of Kyudo, I don't think people should be hunting anything with a bow. All I've ever seen is mall ninjas mistaking themselves for skilled archers. If yer gonna kill an animal, be humane, use a rifle with the appropriately sized cartridge. And be a frikin' decent shot.

With respect, that's rediculous. I know many bow hunters that take deer almost every season. One of my best friends owns an archery shop, and he's taken just about everything you can hunt in North America, with a bow. Of course, you do actually have to know how to stalk and hunt- you can't just shoot out of your truck window at 300 yards. wink
