For me, toilet paper is a necessity, not a comfort item. It ranks up there, just after fire, shelter and water. I put it above food. For example, if there is a choice between carrying toilet paper or carrying food, I will choose toilet paper. Seriously, I'm not trying to be funny.

Pics are important! Pics are part of my EDC.

I just assembled a BoB for my 8 year old nephew. I've included pics of his mother, father, and sister along with 40 green plastic Army Soldiers.

In my BoB, GHB, and E&E kit, I will keep some candy bars, carry my "Medicine Pouch" a very small teddy bear (a gift from my daughters) with whichever kit I'm using. I also keep a deck of cards in my BoB and GHB to help pass the time.

I'd tell you, but this is a family sight....

No, joking. Though as a boy scout I did occasionally bring the bikini girl playing cards.

My true PSK doesn't have comfort items (it's an altoid tin). In fact, I can't ever remember any day hike, overnighter, or week long trip having "comfort" items. Just what I think is necessary.

TP is a significant enabler of (ahem) comfort in one's mobility and fire starting (among other things). But I still look at it as a comfort item.

Most mammals go all their lives without TP. :-) None last long without food.

True, but you'll agree that everybody is different. Here's an issue where being different is magnified in flying colors. Because of a medical condition, I drop a deuce 5 to 8 times per 24 hours. It's not negotiable. I can't just hold it in. The deuces are not clean exits either. If I don't clean up, I face health issues that will get me in worse trouble before lack of food will.

Yep. That's serious. Moves it from comfort category into life threatening if absent category (like insulin or nitroglycerine).

My PSK- my morale is much better when I'm alive. I get all kinds of grouchy and mean when I'm freezing to death. grin

In my PSK, nothing, no room. But I always carry a small note book and a pen and pencil- a writer might be frustrated, but is rarely bored.

I take a pack of playing cards. I figure if I ever get lost, all I have to do is sit down and deal myself a game of Solitaire. Chances are, I won't finish before someone shows up to point out a play I should have made!

So very true!! I keep a couple of hot wheels in the family BOB and he's got one in his pack too. I'm pretty sure they all have flames on them too.
