DAJO Adventure Gear "Survivor"

At $30 on Amazon, it's sounds like a pretty good value, but I'd love to hear from an actual owner.

Does anyone know of any alternative good knife/fire combos at this (low) end of the price range?

I've seen a few youtube vids on it but I've never seen one close up. To it looks a bit gimmicky and not all that well designed. The steel used isn't stellar but for survival use it would probably suffice (wouldn't expect much for EDC). The sheath with storage for the LMF steel & whistle is kinda slick, though. You could probably do worse.

My choice in that price range would hands down be a Mora, either a Triflex or a Carbon #2 & a GobSpark Armageddon FireSteel from Firesteel.com. The Moras aren't the be-all, end-all of knives but they're well made of excellent steel. They're very sharp and will hold an edge well. Both of the ones I linked will strike a ferro rod very reliably. And the Gobspark is a terrific steel. I've used mine to light many a fire.
