The screws with the little bent wire bales on them that hold the battery cover in place.

I'm usually good at this sort of thing, but I can't seem to figure out what they officially are called and/or a source for them.

I know they are "captive screws" but I want them with the little handles on them.

Anyone know?

D-ring quick release flat/slot headed screw/bolt.

D-ring - they have a D-ring.

Quick Release - because they are quick release.

Flat/Slot headed - the screw or bolt will use a flat/slotted headed screw driver.

Screw/Bolt - Could be self tapping etc or standard bolt. i.e M4, M6 etc.

Easy... My mom always called them "whatcha-ma-call-its"

Ring head or D ring head. Usually only see these in quarter turn fasteners.

You guys are getting closer, but still no cigar. They seem to be used on camera gear from time to time. My Magellan GPS uses them for the battery compartment and custom USB cable attachment.

I suppose it would help to tell you what I want to do with it. I'm playing with some ideas for the ultimate survival pot/cup/billy can and these seemed like a good way to make a low-profile lid handle.

Oh, snap! The minute I saw the pictures you posted I realized that's what I want to put on my Billy Can! If you can find 'em I'd like to get some, too.

The basic screw heads, minus the D-ring, are classified as a "cheese" headed. An archaic reference to a wheel of cheese as I understand it.

IMO the best bet is to contact the company and find out what they are called and where they get them. You may have to sweet talk them a bit because they are going to want to sell you the screws as replacement parts at five or ten times the cost. sure thing that SPOT does not manufacture their own screws. So there is a company out there making and selling them.
