I'm glad she's okay. A senior who requires insulin can get into serious trouble very quickly. With an ageing and active population, we may see more searches caused or complicated by medical conditions.

But I'm confused: why did it take two days to find someone in a nearby building? Wouldn't that be the first place you'd look? Wouldn't SAR do a quick survey of the area the same day, or is there too much risk of creating confusing sign?

Perhaps I'm missing something?

What we are missing is information, specific and precise as to initial development of the search, the location of the shed, her movements, etc. Information that is critical to critiquing an operation is almost always omitted from the typical media coverage

Searches take as long as they take, even competent operations that get into action quickly and follow well conceived strategies. The toughest part is trying to get inside the mind of the victim and deduce his/her actions.

I have had a lot of experience in SAR and you would be amazed at how long it can take me to find my EDC some mornings.....

Good point. We don't have many details from the SAR side and probably never will. Media focus on the human interest side of stories because that's what sells. Too bad.

Okay, here's a similar story: another senior (86) lost for four days, then found alive. (What, is there something in the water?) His 90 year old friend dropped him in the wrong spot and he cut cross-country. Tough old bird, certainly; but a few additional items would have saved him a lot of hardship.
