Seems like a .22 pistol with a long barrel (for better sight radius length) might be the ticket. It'll take all kinds of game, isn't too loud or too heavy and ammo is cheap. Only problem is the "legal game" thing. You wouldn't be legally eating venison, elk or bear or wild boar.
