Many of you have heard of the pea-green Mora #2000 Swedish survival knife. I've been curious about it, but just couldn't get myself to spend the $35 on such an ugly knife.

Recently Mora has come out with a knife that has the blade of the #2000 with the handle of the #946 ... the #2010, and it is a winner.

After my post to the recent fixed blade thread, it bugged me that I'd never actually seen the Mora #2000, so I ordered the #2010, got it this afternoon, and have to say, I really REALLY like it. The tip of the blade is thinner than I expected it to be (but just like the pics on the web sites), but the #2000 had such an excellent reputation that I have faith in the #2010.

The handle feels great. Grippy. A bit of a finger guard. A few bits of flashing (extra plastic where the mold was), but I quickly trimmed that off. Not sure how it would handle real rough abrasion.

The sheath is the best I've seen on a Mora knife. As I've read others say, I do wish the belt clip allowed use of a bit wider belt, but it will do fine. I do wonder whether the blade could be pushed through the case if someone fell on it.

The #2010 is no Mk3, but it makes for a GREAT beginner's fixed blade camp/survival knife - just $35! Eventually I'll probably give the #2010 to my Eagle Scout son - since I already have the Mk3, but until then I need some time to play with the Mora 2010 some more.

I've seen the 2000/2010 sometime ago, but kept wondering what does it have to justify the price over say 11201, which is quite similar but goes for $14.

I have quite a few Moras, but never got any 2000/2010 because for their price I can get two others.

I have a bunch of Mora's myself and like them all. A friend of mine gave me a Mora 2000. I probably wouldn't have sprung for it myself. But now that I have one and use it, I like it and would be willing to buy a 2010. Of the two, the 2000 would make a better neck knife, IMO. The 2000 is stainless, if I recall correctly, so could even be used as a dive knife.

Generally, I prefer carbon steel. But for use around the ocean and for just throwing it in your kit with no maintenance, the stainless is a winner.

I have a couple of Frosts Mora Clippers in both carbon steel and stainless. I really like them. What does this new model offer over the Clipper to justify it's higher price (3.5x the Clipper)? The blade is longer (not a benefit for everyday use) and the grind of the blade is rather unusual. I wonder how fragile the tip is with that strange grind? How easy is this grind to shapen correctly?

There are lots and lots of Mora 2000 reviews out there. Both text-based and videos. Just search on "Mora 2000 knife". It is pretty universally praised.

I agree that the price seems high for a Mora - that's why I never actually owned one until now. Oh, and that green color too.

The biggest difference between the #2000/#2010 and the other Moras is the tip grind and its noticeably wider blade. Honestly not sure its worth the extra cost.

My advice to a newbie would be to buy one of the $15 Moras (my own preference is the #746 - because I prefer the larger handle (you know what they say ... big hands ... big handle). Then save your pennies for an Mk3.

Still, I have to say, I do like the blade on the #2010.
