I've tried the magnifying glass from the SAKs as a fire starter and have had no sucess. I don't think it has a high enough mag. power. There are several pocket sized mag. glasses that do, local outdoor/sewing/drug stores often turn up several decent ones. Give it a shot.

I would't be too dependant on it though, you are at the mercy of the sun.

When I want to replace my wave for a short period I carry a Victorinox Delux Tinker. While it really is not a subsitute for the wave I find it does a good job for minor tasks. But it lacks a magnifying glass and when compared to the cybertool or swiss champ it's really quite a minimal tool. So I guess I'm not sure why I'm posting this except to say WOW that would be a lot of EDC. But back ups are back ups and if you feel comfortable with those tools then I would go for the Swisschamp. <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

What were you using for tinder when it worked for you? I've tried several and had no luck.

Whatever I have on hand. The warm summer sun helps. Sunlight during other seasons is problematic.

Carry both a Wave and a Swiss Army knife that is...actually two SAKs if you count the little one on my key chain. The bigger SAK rarely sees much use, but I like having it around all the same.

The Wave sees a lot of use, and the little SAK is generally more of a personal grooming aid. Still, if I need a sharp blade, the tiny SAK draws a lot less attention than the Wave.
