I just got my new eGear Pico LED Zipper Light ordered from Bestglide for $8.95 and flatrate shipping $13.60. Total of $22.55 !!

But I can't get it to work. I twist it at the "lightbulb" end but nothing happens. I have had the battery out, turned it around, tried it both ways, no go.

Update:
I tried fiddling with the "connectors" on the diod, if I bend them up slightly, it works. So, the probable reason, connectors were not touching the battery properly.

Not good.

I have found them to be excellent little lights. Sorry to hear that yours doesn't work right. Maybe the batteries are dead?? I'm sure they have a good return policy, but that might end up costing more than it is worth.

Ouch on the shipping price! That would be irritating enough.

I'm surprised it is defective as I have several and have given several away with absolutely no complaints.

You can complain directly to the manufacturer at this link. They need to know when their product is defective:

@Dagny,
I have now sent mails to both bestglide as well as essentialgear about this.

Small, high quality gadgets are a favourite of mine and I was really looking forward to test one of these and eventually include it in my mini-kit.

Update:
I got a prompt reply from Carrie Purcell, Customer Service Specialist at eGear/Essential Gear, Inc. and she said:

"Since all our products are covered by a 100% guarantee, we will gladly send a new replacement PICO to you."

Thank you Carrie !

I am pleased to see that Essential Gear stepped up as appropriate. Anytime you produce tens of thousands of something, there will be an occassional bad one. The key is to keep that to a minimum and make sure you stand behind the product when it does happen. To my mind, that's what really tells the story.

Things can happen and the way it's handled is what counts with me. I have one of the little lights and love it! While I normally like a clicky or button, on and off switch, the design of the Pico is perfect for a pocket kit as it won't accidently get turned on.

Cheers to eGear for prompt replacement, but I just cannot live without a regulated or semi regulated light these days! smirk

LL Bean now carries them and Hudson Trail Outfitter (a regional outfitter) is carrying them next to the cash registers.

Sales should be taking off.

EMS has them as cash register impulse item, as do a couple of the local places around here.

Bit more expensive, but so much better made- I've nudged a few people towards them by showing off mine. I really should get commision at the gear exchange... *grins*

Sorry for the renewal of an old thread, but I ordered one from Ebay and I was pleased with the seller, but I had the same problem as Bork. I bent the connectors out and I had light for about 30 seconds and then nothing... I know the batteries arent dead, I had to keep bending the connector out in order to get any light at all, and I dont want to break them, either the connectors are too soft, or I am missing something, is there any other possibility for this mishap? any help would be appreciated! and they do look really nice on the zipper of a RealTree camo hoodie, just as a decoration!

Be careful when removing the plastic battery protectors from the battery packs when you replace them. I broke one off when I first replaced the battery. With my old eyesight I missed that one of the disks broke off the tab. I have one that resides in my watch pocket and is used at least 2 or 3 times each day. Although I have lots of other flashlights, this one is always with me. I bought 30 Pico's over a year ago and gave lots of them to friends and family. Out of the bunch one of them had the battery protectors in it.

Great tool and great company!

The best,

Jerry

I called them, and they replaced it, I feel like that rips the company off, Chris was a big help, and it was very appreciated. I'm wondering if the metal ring that contacts the flashlight body isn't, that would explain basically all the problems I'm having. Could I use aluminum foil?

Update: The light arrived yesterday, and I was very pleased! Chris, the customer rep. I called shipped the light, which I ordered in titanium, and I really like the color. Chris also shipped a 2 pack of batteries with the light, which I thought was really kind! Now I have replacement batteries and a sort of working PICO, I used a small strip of aluminum foil and it works, although its harder to turn, and turns on when not tightened as much as the other, I am very happy! Thanks Chris and everyone at Essential Gear!
P.S. I called E-Gear back when I recieved the light, luckily Chris answered again, so I didnt have to ask for him, but I told him thanks, and I guess I owe Doug and ETS a thanks as well, if it werent for you, i wouldnt even know about this awesome little light!

What are you using the aluminum foil for? All 20 or so I have used work very well without any help.

Curious,

Jerry

Are you sure those are the DR eGear lights? The DR lights come in a little plastic storage tube and the lights are marked Ritter eGear. My local outdoor store has them by the cash register too but not for $2.99. The DR lights are nice little lights. I have several in kits and on key chains.

I did pick a similar looking light up at Cabela's for $2.99 but it was next to worthless compared to the Ritter eGear and Streamlight Nano.

Not sure. The batteries are in the same type of housing. They have a key ring instead of the clip. For $2.99 I figured what's to lose......

the aluminum foil is for the switch, when tightened (on), the metal ring around the LED that connects to the + terminal isnt hitting the body of the flashlight, which turns it on.

NOT EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just received some of these that we ordered. Cheap POS knock-off is as polite as I can be.

Let me the very clear, these are not eGear PICO Lites. The quality doesn't even come close. They are larger, crudely finished, the o-ring doesn't seal, and in two examples we got out of four, it was damaged, not that it matters, the batteries cannot be replaced in their holder, the keyring attachment is crap, and the list goes on.

EDIT: On further examination, we figured out you can change the batteries in the holder, just not as obvious.

I'm sorry to hear that Doug, I just posted today in another thread about running one of my original pico lights through the washing machine yesterday and it worked like a charm afterwards. Hope you can get it worked out as I love those little lights for kits and key chains.

THANK YOU!!! I hate it when there are identical knock offs for a product i want.Espicially from a credible organization like BSA.Not being able to order from the internet (eliminating debt, eliminating credit cards, recovery from unemployment)really SUCKS.Trying to get good survival gear old school style (purchasing from a store) is is becoming tedious. The mark up compared to internet prices is insane or you get cheap knock offs claiming to be the real thing.Military surplus stores are bad for this.If it is labeled as G.I."styled",it is usually made in China or Korea. This junk is only suitable for mall ninja's.OK rant off...
Thank you very much Mr. Ritter for getting me strait...
