Ranger bands are a great way to keep gear closed or togeather. They're often sold in magazines for quite a few bucks for only a small pack. I thought I'd share an easy, cost efficient way to make a lot of them.
Purchase a bicycle innertube at any local bike shop. Most big "everything in one place" stores sell them too. Now, simply get some sissors and cut it into bands. You can vary the thickness of the bands. You can even use this method to make "sleeves" over some of your gear. This works great over the hard kydex sheaths that the BK-7 or the Ka-Bar next generation come in.
I have to admit, this is not an original idea. I read about it on
www.therangerdigest.com they have some great outdoor tips and tricks.
