Used my truck FAK today (AMK Weekender) for a minor dog bite. Dog got scared of something and bit a handler before realizing what he was biting. She says that once the dog saw her and realized what he had in his mouth he immediately released but too late, damage was done. Mostly it was just scratches but two points started bleeding a bit, so I'd call it minor.

Regardless, I got my FAK and used a Benzoin Tincture Swabstick and it worked great. Open the sealed and sterile applicator foil pouch, use it and toss it -- nice.

I can't find refills. Neither AMK nor Redflare had a similar product. The swabstick makes application very un-messy. The Tincture adhered to the light wounds really well and nothing else was required in the way of a cover. For the two wounds that bled small band-aids did the job.

Any ideas on refills? TIA

The package says APLICARE and below that ONE COMPOUND BENZOINE TINCTURE SWABSTICK. I guess APLICARE is the brandname. Found at http://www.aplicare.com/FAQ-Kits_EtO.htm in case quantities of 1000. Don't need that many.

All things considered that's a better idea. Near universal applicator and then apply whatever as required. Almost as un-messy with more options. Thanks.

I have a 30 count container in my travel kit. I'll look for another to toss in the FAK.

Hmm... usually you should let the wounds bleed, irrigate copiously, then close.

And she really should start some antibiotics. With an orthopedic evaluation if it's near a joint.

Two wounds were bleeding after she cleaned up and before the band-aid. These were not deep, more like scrapes done with teeth. The damage could have been much worse if she had been the target rather than just getting in the way.

Now the fun part where to find them, I have'nt seen these before.

Aplicare is what hospitals use... ask around for one or two and you might get lucky.
