just need punky wood (dry, corky rotten wood from standing snags, downed trees etc). its the key; crumble a fistfull into just bigger than dust consistency. this will grow and spread the little ember you get w/ the lens when blowing on it. improper materials you can lens all day and blow, but they just blow out and don't grow. use the right material and you will succeed first time.
