My 13 year old daughter just got accepted into the Fire Rescue Cadet program here. She's got a mature head, and passed the fitness part (some boys didn't). She's really into learning CPR and helping the community. Maybe she got the gear freak gene from me. Anybody else here have a kid in a Cadet program? Regards, Keys

Congratulations! Yet another future ETS forum member in the process of cultivating that wonderful pyromaniac interest that lay dormant for all these 13 years!
Excuse my ingnorance, but what do the cadets learn on this specific program?

The cadets receive CPR training, then accompany fire rescue members on emergency calls, though they are shielded from fatal crash scenes. The kids take their CPR kits with them everywhere, even to school. They are trained in physical fitness, rappelling, extrication, and over time stock their own kits and equipment, getting training with all of the gear they would encounter on the job. This weekend my daughter is going to the airport to get aquainted with the rescue helicopter airlift program. I'm sure there's a lot more to the training than I know about - I'm learning too. Yes, I am very proud. Regards, Keys
