Most of the previous discussions on this topic centered around removing the custom Torx screw to swap out tools. But a recent thread about eye glass screwdrivers made me wonder if the smallest slotted screw driver in the Wave could be modified to become one. I'm not at all familiar with metalworking to know if it's easy or to leave well enough alone. Any ideas?

Willie,

Sure - you can readily do it yourself with a common file (I would not even mess with grinding or machining and I have those capabilities at home).

IMHO, though, it would be a very awkward barely-better-than-nothing tool to use - too much mass relative to the screw, eccentric mount, big fat screwdriver.

Prol better off to epoxy a rare earth magnet inside the handle of the WAVE and stick a dimestore eyeglasses screwdriver in there.

HTH,

Tom

There is an eye glass screw driver on the bottle opener of the Micra. Please lets not get into a discussion of the passing of bottle caps because of twist offs <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />.You still need an opener for Carrona Extra(now where did I put that lime <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />)

Makes sense KISS!

I've never bought a rare earth magnet. Are they available ate Ace or similar hardware stores?

Indeed there is a small screwdriver on the Micra. I pulled a Micra and an SAK out of my pockets and compared the Micra blade to the SAK corkscrew eyeglasses screwdriver, then tried both on a couple of pairs of eyeglasses.

The Micra blade is a little large but it works fine if the screw is a little proud of the hinge. It is too wide to follow some screws down if the screw winds up being recessed very far - depends on the specific glasses and screw. The SAK screwdriver is pretty conventional at the business end and managed everything just as expected.

The Micra screwdriver is good enough, I'd say, although less than ideal.

I scanned a pic of the two blades for the terminally curious, but it will have to wait until I can upload the pic tonight.

Corona is not the only cap needing a lift, but it's a good one <grin> - but I use my SAK for that.
