Well, here's a survival situation I haven't really planned for.

"BELLEAIR BEACH, Fla. - A man who apparently passed out on a pool float at a Tampa area beach ended up drifting about a mile from Florida's shore in the Gulf of Mexico."

I assume he's taken the pledge now? laugh

Weird... I'd like to see a video recreation. I'm having a hard time visualizing this incident.

Belleair Beach ( Google Map ) is on the west coast of Florida. The only direction to go from there is into the Gulf.

So, "Don't Drink and Float"?

I'm dead certain-sure that you're not nearly stupid enough to have to plan for it.

Didn't Bo Derek pull that one in the movie "10"? Or was it her husband/lover/fiance/whatever that floated off? Well, somebody floated off, only to be saved by Dudley Moore. I haven't seen that movie in ages...

I hope he didn't wake up and light up a smoke absentmindedly. He could have burned down the whole Gulf of Mexico.

Not as uncommon as you'd think. Living on Guam we'd see this often. Tourists fall asleep in some type of float, current takes them out of the bay and pushes them out. It's pretty scary. Heck I've swam a mile out from shore and it's scary.

Years ago i know someone that fell asleep at the beach and when she woke up her car was gone. This was also back when a volkswagon beatle would float, tide came in and took the car out with it. Was only a 100 yards offshore or so. The bug was never quite right after that.
