NASA reports increasing solar activity. Says that the effects can be worse than the damage caused by hurricane Katrina.

Certainly potentialy serious, but not perhaps as bad as hard core doomers predict.
The USA is especialy vulnerable owing to the great land area of the nation and the consequent very long transmission lines.

Less advanced nations with less grid reliance would less affected.
Advanced, but smaller nations such as the UK would be at slightly less risk owing to the shorter transmission lines.
