I just blundered onto this interesting article online. www.ius-info.ius-software.si/tt/nevis2001e.htm

Edited by Chris Kavanaugh on 10/08/01 10:45 PM (server time).

My luddite philosophy strikes again! I did a websearch through AOL for Done Right. I blundered onto "eight days in the jungle without food or water" by Anton tomazic on the second search results page. Can somebody help? Good story!

Drinking urin sounds ..... ummmm..... digusting!
maybe i couldnt read it cause the buttons were screwed up but he said something bout a waterfall why not drink that?

I emailed the author with an invitation to our site. I have several questions, including the waterfall, what gear he carried ( or from the sound of it, didn't). I once spent the better part of a day climbing up a chaparrel covered cindercone. I made it, and looked silently at the paved trail on the other side

>>he said something bout a waterfall why not drink that?<<

He said the waterfall was dry, although one would think the rains he mentioned would put water in it. Maybe not enough rain or the water was too dirty?

I have to say, I think the idea of drinking urine he touted as life-saving probably did him no good at all (or worse). It's similar to the problem of drinking sea-water. Both are mostly water, but the impurities that come in with it require the use of water to expell the impurities from the body. None of the water is left for other purposes in the body. Please don't assume that this is an effective new survival technique.

I received a brief email from the author. He thinks our site is wonderfull, and posted a link on his. I hope he took some time to read it ! I will email him with more questions about his rucksack contents and previous training. I think his Alpine experience gave him some ill placed confidence. Edelwiesse is a lot different from mixed Caribean flora. I think the urine caused the intestinal distress, not the fogdrip water.
