I'm told that the prairie scourge, the Richardson's ground squirrel, is quite edible if you know how to handle it. There are some vile glands that need to be removed when processing the carcass, otherwise they will contaminate the meat. (Memory is vague, but I believe they are behind the forearms.)

I think there are a lot of similar tricks that apply to other unorthodox meat sources.

Food, water, shelter...the three distinct, separate, and basic elements of human survival. Those who venture off the pavement understand that in any survival situation it is not only 'possible' to have plenty of one or two of these elements but not the other, it is 'probable'. That reality forms the basis of many of our discussions on these forums. The three vital elements vie for supremacy in the cauldron of physical condition(injury) seasons, climate, and terrain. As "The Prepared", we find, we make, we harvest, or we take what we need from our environment based on our immediate survival needs, our skills, and our equipment.

Mark. This is a "open ground" as you can get

The pics have been taken by 4 friends during a week-long trip in some Middle Eastern desert.

Do you see the "food" in the pic ? Look closely at the center of the picture. You and I can't catch that "fast" food, but if you are prepared like these guys , you launch your secret weapon:

Again, focus at the center of the picture :

A closer look

Finally, a nice roaring fire

So now we have to figure out how to EDC a raptor?! Or just get one to wait patiently with our BOB?! Plus add raptor capture and training to our list of skills-to-acquire?!

P.S. Can these birds find water?

P.P.S. I know that falconry has a long and distinguished history among the nobility of Europe, Asia, and what we call the Middle East.

Dogs will do. Many preppers include their dogs in the plan. There is a 14 old boy on youtube who trained his dog to catch rabbits.

I have no experience with either dogs or birds though, so I don't know anything about them finding water. But if logic would serve us, we should look for water in lower lands that show some kind of vegetation. Make sure you have a sturdy trowel in your BOB.
