Interesting. I like the idea of switching blades to customize the rig to fit your need.

But the first question is: Why is the hub so big? If it was smaller the entire unit would be more compact, possibly lighter. As it is the large hub makes the unit seem quite bulky. I don't want it if I can't carry it conveniently. The fact of human behavior is that if it is a pain to tote around I'm going to find some excuse to leave it behind and it won't be there when I need it.

As a novelty, to a collector, it might be well worth every cent. But to a person seeking a tool for use in the field or EDC it falls short.

I have to note that I have seen alternative blades for a Leatherman Wave. Some of these may be available through the manufacturer or outside vendor. I have been told, but have never sen, similar alternative tools for SOG multi-tools.

if you want extra tools for SOG it's easier to call the company because I don't believe they sell them directly to the public unless you ask.

I've gotten a few tools that I swapped out on the powerplier, still ended up trading it because I preferred the leatherman wave/charge.

The search is NOT over , in my case at least !

I think that the company should sell customized sets, because the way it is, you may buy things you never use.

Ideally you should be able to order the case (with smaller hub) and selected items. In my case, I might order 2 or even 3 blades because a blade is so much used sometimes it will need sharpening. Having another blade in the mix helps a lot.

Or if you get a chance to catch the Victorinox road show, you could really build your own:

10 years ago I worked for an engineering consultancy that was trying to make a vending machine/robot that would allow you to make a custom Swiss army knife.

It never got beyond the cool idea pitch though!
