I work for a printing company in South Central PA. This morning a jogger spied a suspicious package in the park adjacent to the building across the parking lot. (we have two bld. side by side) The police were called and the building evacuated. They called the bomb squad in w/ dogs. When the dogs were exposed to the scene they went berserk signifying explosives! They carefully peeled away part of the box to reveal wires. After excrutiating moments, they finally were able to discover what kind of bomb this was. It was the dreaded "Mosquito Trap" Thats right kiddo's. Apparently the people who study West Nile Virus place these traps here and there to catch mosqiuitos and test them for WNV. This time however, they forgot to let the Borough know. Paranoid? or Cautious?

Hmmm. I have to imagine that the bait is similar in scent to explosive compounds. Based on the dog's reaction though. It seems like they took the correct approach.
It could have been real exciting if your ploce department had one of those robots with the big cannon on it.

That would have been pretty cool. But they wouldn't let anyone near enough to snoop. Heck, they wouldn't even let me poke at it with a stick! (and I had a good stick too)
I vote for cautious. The police had no chance to win from the start. It seems that it was a standard procedure. After it turned out that it wasnīt neccessary itīs easy to laugh. Letīs just say the police did a good job in this practice run.

hmm rather cautious than dead i think. i was shocked to find rubbish bins(trash cans <img src="images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />) in the airports in the us when i went over there, which was after 9/11. over here you don't get bins in airports train stations and the like. its down to all the PIRA attacks, the powers that be didn't want to give them anywhere to hide a bomb. and the public in britian tend to report bags and pacages left lying arround quite readily. good thing that they checked it so well. over here on the odd occasion some tourist/stupid local/whomever leaves a bag lying about, comes back to find a chared mess where the bomb squad have been in and done a controlled explosion. they don't tend to mess about these days. hmm i have been rambling. bye sc
