Does his company have a shot? Sure. Can he deliver on what is promised? No. Sure, it was a while ago, but even the top of the line government shelters built during the height of the cold war were small, stark, and largely unrealistic. Sorry, but even the Greenbriar shelter would have been uncomfortable.

I meant to mention...

That's $50,000 for a bunk and access to community equipment and services divided between 170-200 people.

Someone mentioned earlier that you could probably put something together more cheaply and better supplied. It might be tough if you had to hire contractors, but I'd have to agree if you could do the work yourself and as the number of people you were building for increased.

The modern Maya don't have a stance on this, probably because the mayan calendar BEGAN in 3114 BC. Its generally accepted that the world did not start in 3114 BC. But of course, we are encouraged to believe that the Mayans were right about the end but not the beginning. Those pesky details just spoil the fun.

The calendar on my fridge ends on Dec.31, 2010... but I suspect the world will not end then, either...

Anyone who does even a few moments of research would probably not be interested in paying $50k...

I wouldnt necessarily say that the Mayan people do not believe in this. I have spent an extensive amount of time working in Central America with the locals and have many that I consider family and if you ask them what their ethnicity is they will tell you Mayan. Many of them do believe that a significant change will occur but dont get into too much detail. That being said, it doesnt mean the world is going to end BUT I wouldnt throw out a blanket statement about Mayans not believing or the hog wash about Mayan culture being dead. I can tell you for a fact that Mayan culture is not dead, it has just changed like any other culture.

I hope that the local Mayans have given up on that football/basket ball game with the freshly decapitated human heads, whilst dressed up like big bird from Sesame street that they used to play though. wink

Agreed that Mayans believe something will happen. If you research it, the variations of what the "significant change" will be is truly amazing. Most of the beliefs appear to be "new age" style, being as vague as "the dark and the light becoming balanced".

My motivation in pointing this out is that the mass-marketed media claim is "the Mayans knew this would be the end of the world". This is a baseless statement created only for the entertainment of others (e.g. the movie "2012").

For the money, I would much prefer a seat in an orbiting dome much akin to "Silent Running".
