I found a clea plastic box like this

It is good for organizzing small stuff. But there was some ooooold foam layer sticking on the cover and that foam disintegrated leaving a gummy residue with a bad smell. I left it to dry , but after a week the stikiness is still there.

Temporarily I solved the problem by covering it with dust LOL.
It seems to work but I am thinking to clean that gummy mess without harming the box itself. What kind of solvent or detergent can be used here ?

Thanks.

Try that funky Goo-Gone or similar product. Then wash it real good. Or spend the same amount of money at a craft or dollar store and buy two or three new ones.

Lamp oil also works well.

Let some WD-40 sit on it for a bit. OUTDOORS. Then wash.

Thanks guys and gals

I'll try the WD-40 and hope it will not dissolve the box LOL.

Actually, hot water , detergent , and some rough stuff may remove the stuff, but the box itself isn't sturdy enough to take that rubbing. It will break before it can be cleaned. This is why I want some solvent to melt the gum away without much physical rubbing.

In the dollar stores around me we have great drawer type plastic organizers , but this is a box-type which is smaller and better for all sort of screws and other stuff.

WD-40, Goo-gone, vegetable oil will all work. Terry cloth helps when using any of the above to remove sticky messes. An old sock turned inside out is ideal. Also works on tape residue and stickum from price labels.

In my experience, not as well as any of the other suggestions. Alcohol tends to just "neutralize" the adhesive until it dries, while the others soften and remove it. I have used it, though, to "refresh" a glue area that had a lot of dust and lint on it.

Gun Scrubber brand solvent. Will peel paint. Apply a quick spray to a small area, watch the adhesive bubble up, then wipe off with a wet rag. Will only take a few moments.
