Does anyone have any experience with Victorinox's line of locking knives? I'm sure the blades are the usual Victorinox quality, but how's the locking mechanism? My girlfriend wants something with a more useful blade than her Micra, and is more or less set on a SAK, so I was thinking something like a adventurer would be good.

Any thoughts?

chris the locking s.a.k is great quality knife at a decent price. i had one in panama until i lost it. but like all folding blades its only as stong as the pin holding the blade in the handle. just my 2 cents worth .. vince <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> [color:"green"] [/color]

Or if you're thinking of a one-handed opening SAK, there's the Victorinox One Hand Trailmaster. Cutlery Shoppe (www.cutleryshoppe.com - catalog - SAK) still has some apparently. It has a combo blade, though.

I’ve owned a couple Adventures over the years (and their cousin that has a cork screw instead of the Phillips bit.) I liked them just fine. But after a while you can hear grit in the lock when you move the thumb switch. Every field sharpener seems to be set to their bevel. I also have one of the One-Handed Trail Masters now and really like it. Some folks don’t like the combo edge, and I understand their reasoning, but I sort of like it for an EDC or glove box knife, but that’s a matter of personal preference.

I have the adventurer-with-corkscrew. It is my main outdoor/work knife (a bit big for my EDC needs). i've had it for 2 years and had no prroblems at all. the lock is strong enough that i have no problems. It really is a great knife.

I don't know exactly what size my SAK is, but I know it is the bigger one (111mm sounds about right).
