I was issued the SOG tool, EOD version with crimpers. I promptly replaced it with a Surge.

The biggest thing I didn't like with the SOG was the little door things kept coming off. Crimpers are nice, but not something that needs to be on a multi-tool. Made the pliar function virtually useless. They are good tools though.

Oh, another thing. beware that the teeth on the powerlock are really hard on the case/sheath. They wear thru very quickly.

I do not like the handle covers either Mac! They are So annoying!! I do know how easy they are to pop off with gloves on! I have never popped one off on accident bare handed but, the one handed opening is AWESOME! I am thinking about getting a gerber clutch or LM micra next, Which one? Other reccomendations are welcome too! $35 or less range though. Willing to buy used!

Also.. I called SOG and they told me the powerlock was assembled in america with SOME american made parts. All other parts come from taiwan! Worse than mexico! SOG just lost ALOT of points from me too!

All my lowes has is a Wave or Blast! Its fairly new though, went up at the beginning of this year! Maybe later on!

IZZY I see what you mean by cosmetic differences! Mine doesnt have a piano lock, just a bent piece of metal! It doesnt have any gear covers either, but those are just cosmetic not actuall performance affecting... hopefully!

I too picked up the sale-priced Powerlock from Lowes. If these really are made of foreign components and labelled as Made in USA, they better watch out. Leatherman changed the wording on their tools because they are assembled in the USA from some foreign components (files and corkscrews from Europe, plier jaws from Mexico, other tools, finish, and assembly in USA). They got sued over it in California.

I haven't put it through its paces yet, but I like it. Won't replace my Charge, though, since I prefer to have some one-handed-open blades available.

If you are looking to pick up tools inexpensively and are OK with second-hand, search on Ebay for "airport seizure". I got a lot of Leatherman Squirt tools (2 P4, 2 S4) shipped for less than the cost of one new.

My last Flash II lasted MANY MANY years of abuse, and I finally tossed it as the blade was getting thin, and it was beyond cracked, scratched, and about dead. I abused the crap out of it and was amazed it held up!

Another thing i forgot to mention is that the pliers are not spring loaded! This is not a big deal with me but for those used to the spring loaded pliers like Leatherman's it is a little more difficult!

What Leatherman model has spring loaded pliers? Not the Wave, I am sure.
