Here's what I have in my PSK. Boreal forests, three seasons. It is meant to supplement what I always carry on my belt or in my jacket pocket: good grade compass, lighter, Leatherman Supertool, belt knife, bandana, whistle.

Here is what you see from top left:
Mil-Spec pouch
Orange Poncho
4 teabags and heavy zip lock
TP and a ziplock
cotton ball and paper tinder (or paper to write notes)
Packet containing snelled fish hooks, 2 scalpel blades, eyeglass repair kit with magnifying glass, signal mirror, three upholstery needles, band aids, double size emergency blanket, pencil with 50 lb braided fish line 50 feet
Fiskars retractable wood saw, Mora 840 MG Clipper, magnesium sparker and striker, a frog spearhead with a half hot-glue stick protecting points, 50 ft braided heavy line, snarewire, whistle, bobber, button compass, SAK Classic, nylon flag clip, Bic lighter, filter straw, iodine tabs, duct tap wrapped film canister with vaseline soaked cotton balls and two large treble hooks, a LED light, 5 zip ties, 50 feet of 550 paracord and a sierra cup. When I go out, I stuff one Clif Bar in also......yes it all fits in the pouch.

Looks pretty darn good. You could save a couple of ounces with a titanium sierra cup, but it is probably not worth it. I suppose we could discuss the proper tea blends for a PSK - I favor, oddly enough, Constant Comment (the official tea of the ETS Forum).

Instead of TP, have you thought using a travelers pack of Baby Wipes instead? They don't take much more space then the TP and are more versatile, sanitary wise.

Instead of a pencil I carry a bright red Sharpie. It can be used to write on anything from rocks to trees.

Good, practical kit. Glad you went with the excellent Fiskars saw instead of the Gerber look-alike which is junk (EDIT: to clarify, the Gerber blades are very sharp but very thin and prone to bending).

Just curious, I don't see any first-aid tape. Standard stuff for me, the super-sticky stuff, for preventing blisters etc. Duct tape doesn't stick to me -- I'm too slippery a character it seems.

Re Tea: I keep some Constant Comment around (camping box) because of the indestructible foil pouches. It stays fresh for years (a decade or more IME). Otherwise, I lean toward Celestial Seasonings' "Bengal Spice" or the classic Twinings Earl Grey.

Nice kit indeed! I have also seen and have done! put a pried flint bar...from mag block in my PSP pouch works good, a replacement key attached to the end by JB Weld or gorilla glue will make it holdable and attachable! Dont use the key portion too, it takes up half the bar... just cut about 1" off and wah laa! I use just the flint bar though!

Good idea on the sharpie! I will have to get a red mini! off topic! Has anyone used the chinese made sharpies? They SUCK!! The ink is like half filled and the "sharpie" label rubs off or actually smears under your finger leaving a nasty sticky residue!!

You can save a little space and room by using Shrin tubing for the Gig points. if you do it correctly you can replace them easily!

I was wondering why a filter straw and Iodine tablets? I would personally prefer MP1s because the degradation (word or not?) of the WPT in the vial and if your hands are cold... nothing pretty can happen!

The Fiscars saw is really impressive. It is made out of some kind of feather-light hard carbon polymer composite that is very strong. When the scarey sharp blade is extended, it locks into place and doesn't wiggle. I drilled a hole in the handle for a paracord lanyard. The Scandinavians really know how to make axes and saws.

You're right about the tea. I used to make annual canoe trips to the boundary waters with 9 other guys. They introduced me to that variety of tea for it's reputed 'medicinal' qualites. I need to get out and scare some up, and not just for my PSK.

Good ideas. I used a pencil because I can shave it into emergency tinder if needed, and it also gives me something to wrap the braided line around. I suppose I could wrap the line around the outside of the frog spear base, and stick a mini sharpie inside.

I might like a bit of redundancy for the led light, especially as you don't mention having one as LDC - otherwise, good kit

I just ordered a Fox 40 Micro Marine for my PSK. It will replace the off brand orange whistle you see in the photo. Supposedly it is unbreakable and 120 decibels.
