Freedom

If you haven't read this book, you must.

It really makes all of our preparedness look silly.

Men escape from a Russian work camp in 1941 and travel through Siberia with little more than the clothes on their back, an axe, a homemade knife, and a metal cup. For fire they have flint.

Amazing.

Good story. Some question the veracity.

The first 1/3 plus some other chapters available on Google Books

This is an excellent read. Some do think it is fiction, or much of it fiction, but it does feel believable.

I have no doubt in the tenacity of human spirit for freedom

It is a good story. There are several out concerning the post WWII years dealing with various nationalities escaping from Siberia. Another is "As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me" by Josef Baur.

Amazon

While no personal account is completely accurate, they both have a great deal of fact in them.

Yeah, wow, sounds like it is pretty made up. I'll have to checkout the Josef Baur version. Pity, it was/is a near story, but less inspiring if false.
