Long story short. Went out for a short hike after work this afternoon and dropped my SAK about 20' down where it bounced off a rock which caused the plastic grip and knife to go flying off in separate directions into the bushes . After 10 minutes of searching, I found the missing SAK itself and the grip.

Question is what type of glue should be used to reattach the grip? I would imagine that it would be some type of epoxy based? i have clamps that I can use to secure the grip until the glue is dry. Needless to say, I will be using a bit more glue then what the factory did...

I would grab some JB Weld, but you might want to wait to see if someone has a better idea. Now your SAK has character....

Assuming it is a Vicyorinox Or Wenger I would use Gorilla Glue! If it is not a Vic. or Wenger, Buy one.. It is a great investment!

I agree. I have dozens of Victorinox knives. especially Classics, and I sharpen, clean, and resell them. They don't have glue, and you can usually pry off the plastic scales and replace them. The scales snap onto the little metal protrusions.

I used contact cement but after it dried it left a dimple on the outer face. New replacement scales are really cheap, they are not meant to be glued, just snapped on.

Roughen both sides with rough sandpaper to give the glue some 'tooth' and lay in some J-B Weld.

Gorilla glue might foam, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but if it foams out all over the place you can wipe off the excess with alcohol, less likely to damage the plastic than acetone, or you could let it dry and scrape any excess off.

Be sure to coat anything you don't want the glue, epoxy or Gorilla, with petroleum jelly.

Looks like a Vic, but I can't place the model. 90 degree phillips and a corkscrew, and there was glue used already- custom?

I would gently remove the glue residue that is here, and order replacedment scales from Rotokid over at SOSAK, he's got most stock colors and sizes on hand and they are cheap. Just snap them on, no messing around with glue. Maybe upgrade to the Plus scales (pen and pin).

Or use this one as a template and make your own. Those you'll need the glue for, I'd use a non-expanding epoxy. If I had the tools, I'd love to get a Compact and replace the scales with snowflake obsidian or tigereye scales for dress use.

E6000 is an epoxy that I like to use for a lot of things. Not a cureall by any standard but I've been consistently pleased with the results. Now, if you are going to stake your life on a repair, thats another story.

Before you buy anything, I do not think that is a SAK, Its certainly not Victorinox. Profile of the can opener and screwdriver is wrong. Also Vic do not glue their scales on. It might be a Wenger. Look at the choil on the main blade. See what it says.

Can you let us know please?
