In a survival situation you have to have knowledge and skills. But you also have to know that you do, or do not, know or have the skills. You need a high risk intelligence.

(The Dunning-Kruger effect is not directly related but it is worth understanding. Everyone knows someone who vastly overestimates their capacities.)

I don't for a minute think this is the final word so I wouldn't get too enthusiastic if you do well of too disappointed if you score on the low end. Just something to think about.

Give it a go. How did you do?

I got an 85.

91. They state that's good.

I guess they don't know I ride motorcycles, fly airplanes, shoot guns, sharpen my own knives and hike alone.

They sure asked a bunch of questions I didn't know the answers to.....

I got a 75. If I'd gone with my gut a few times I probably would have scored higher, but I was honest and and didn't go completely 100% or 0% all the time. I seemed to notice a pattern of being completely sure when I thought a statement was 0% and only around 80% or 90% when I was sure something was true.

With that being said, I believe I'd score myself as actually being around a 60 because I underestimate myself all the time. HAHA

Unimogbert: it's not a test of how much risk you take, it's a test of how well you know the limits of your own knowledge. I think I'd call it a "Certainty Test", myself.

Didn't know the answers to everything, but no sense in being tentative about any of them.

"You Have To Know, and Know that you Know"

This post has my vote for the best headline, hands down!

I tested about average.
I seem to have a tendency to decide if the question is true or not instead of the odds of it being true.

(I also noticed that they had at least one incorrect answer marked as true and one correct one marked as false)

So did I - 67. At least they told me that was pretty average, but for all I know they tell everyone but the top performers that... I guess posting that score means that no one will take me serious ...

Yep. In retrospect, I am willing to take a quick, fast bet on matters that don't really matter to me, such as "trivial pursuit" kind of quiz. I actually think my assessment of the limitations of my knowledge is better on more important aspects.

But the core message and learning here is really important: You probably have a tendency to have over-confidence in your knowledge, skills and ability. Perhaps we should start an over-confidence anonymous (OCA): Hi, I'm ___ and I have too much confidence in my ability to ___ .

94 "very high". It probably helped that the questions have an American bias, and I as a non-American had no trouble admitting I didn't know that stuff. My graph was close to the line almost everywhere except at the 60% point. That's due to a lot of facts where I didn't really know but they sounded right.

I expect if you picked 50% for every question you'd score 100.

Yes, I think that is exactly the message.
We tend to be trained to decide on the question instead of on evaluating the quality of the knowledge we have.
The quiz was not asking if the question was right or wrong. It as asking how sure you were about it.
When I retested with that in mind I scored much higher.

My score: 96

Rated as very high. I chose not to participate in their research. I instead opted for just the answers. Other than a name here and there, I did not know (nor do I really care) who Harry Potter is or was. That question was a total guess.
