I spend a lot of time in the backcountry, I am also active army and spend a good amount of time in the field, therefore I really don't have a PSK as such, I have gear that I carry and use on a regular basis. As I use things I replace them. I have a number of things I carry in a camelback and various stuff in my pockets.
What 1 item, besides your knife, are you never without, multitools don't count, they are knives. For me it is my surefire Z2 or E1 depending on what I am wearing, it has got me out of plenty of jams.

You caught me I didn't even think of that. I never leave the house without a good pair of boots, when I take my wife out to dinner I usually have on Danner elk hunters. Thinking along that line I might swap my surefire for a hat, I will have to think about it though. Chris

mine keychain, i don't want to get stucked outside the house ! it also has a whistle, led light, P38, glowring, wenger exsecutive attached on it. I to don't have a PSK in the tradition fassion, i was started to be annoyed by the huge size and weight of mine tabaco tin sized PSK, now things are intigrated with mine other stuff ( keychain, wallet, belt, etc. ) i i'm trying to make a mini-PSK to supplemt the things that could be usefull in a emergency, but haven't been able to make one that is good enough for me ( i'm quite demanding )

I always have my ligher and bandana. I never knew how much would use them until I started carrying them. Those are very handy.

Chris,

While a light is certainly a great thing to have, if you were taking something and didn't know how long you would be out, you might want to reconsider your Surefire and consider an LED. I love my Surefires, but damn they eat batteries fast. So I would suggest either the LED lamp for the Surefire or a separate LED light for longer duration in a potentially battery-poor situation.

Just a thought...

Greg
