My $.02.
1) Good sock liner (wicking, prevent blisters, etc.). If not much walking involved you may be able to skip this step.
2) Good, THICK wool or wool blend socks.
3) Your current boots.
4) Foot warmers from your favorite retailer.
5) If it is really cold or windy, get out one or more of the garbage bags in your pockets (part of the survival kit you are already carrying, right?), and, like mostlyharmless said, stick your feet inside, boots and all. Instant wind and vapor barrier. Just add other material if necessary for extra insulation. Might scare away your prey though. Of course if it is that cold maybe you should just stay home
.
P.S. Don't give up on the hunting. My dad never took me hunting but we did plenty of fishing. The memories we made are cherished (even the infamous yellow jacket nest incident), and the knowledge and experience I gained can never be taken away. My dad turns 80 this year and I live over 5 hours away so we don't really get to fish together anymore. One day soon he will be gone but I will always have those moments to treasure. Don't make a hasty decision now you may regret years down the road. Hope this helps.
P.P.S. To 2005red, that sounds like a darwin award waiting to happen.
