A friend of mine is a delivery driver who is looking for a pair of quality insulated boots with an approved steel toe. Can anyone recommend a good brand? The ones he gets at Wal-Mart tend to last about half a winter.

Danner back-country duty boots

Danner duty boots - there are many models. Everything I hear and experience about the Danner boots is good.

Look for a Redwing Shoe store. They sell more boots than shoes. Their work boot selection is excellent. They also have a large selection of widths - lots of their shoes and boots are available in 3 to 4 E. Their boots are very well made and most can be resoled.

I have been wearing a pair of Matterhorn boots for several years and really like them. They are very similar to the Danners, only cheaper. Gortex lines, thinsulate insulated, safety toe, vibram soles. Got mine from Brigage QM...

Same here, I love mine. I highly recommed them. Picked them up at real bargin, when a local Army/Navy surplus place went out of business. Pete

Only problem is trying to spit shine them...apparently the leather is silicon impregnated, like the new GI combat boots, and polish just doesn't want to stick to them...

Saddle soap the crap out of them with a medium brush, use honor guard black leather dye afterwards, little bit of black kiwi at a time, little circles, and top it of with little circles of cordovan and they will spit shine. SFC Webster

I agree with canoecamper. RedWings are good. Mine are not insulated, but fit great, can be resoled, and good quality leather. Pricey at first but given the expected lifetime are reasonable.

More major bucks can be spent on White's but they are fine boots.
