Please forgive this question that many of you probably know the answer to. How does one come to serve on a SAR team? Is is a paid or volunteer position? Is is a sub-unit of existing law state/local enforcement? Could an average Joe like me with basic first aid, wilderness and survival knowledge be eligible? Is it like being in the reserves, where you're called up when needed? Should you have been a police or military officer before? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm interested in exploring this option.
