The other morning before a meeting at the factory a nice lady I know came in with a hoarse voice, barely able to talk. I at first assumed bronchitis (I had it last year) and stayed back a little, but it turned out the poor woman had accidentally inhaled a sewing needle eek while working on a project at home. She had the needle in her mouth to keep her hands free and lost track of what she was doing.

She's fine and almost 100% better, but the experience left her pretty shaken.

So a friendly reminder for everybody to be careful with the sewing kit whether at home or caught out in the bush already in harm's way. I never put the needle in my mouth...

Merry Christmas and stay safe everybody!

OMG!

My mother used to do that with a sewing needle if she was working on something.

Fortunately, I can't sew.

OK. That is officially the scariest, freakiest thing I've read all month.

I remember seeing something in a tool catalog (was it Lee Valley Tools?) for woodworkers. A magnetic strip with velcro, IIRC. You wear it around your wrist to keep nails handy. Would it work for needles?

They make pincushions you wear on your wrist. (When putting a needle in a pincushion, insert it just under the surface so the point sticks out again. That way it can't be lost inside the cushion.)

That's why I only machine sew. Better to punch a #18 hole in your finger than to inhale a needle!
