I have two in my EDC, and a third is available in my briefcase. My minimal hiking gear has a headlamp.

Flashlights have gotten smaller, more dependable, and much easier to keep handy in the last few years - there is no reason not to have auxiliary light handy at all times.

The one on my keychain could easily serve me for an all night hike if necessary. it is superior in all respects to lights I actually used not very long ago.
