I was watching last week's CSI last night, and four of the characters are driving down a back road looking for a barbecue place they know of, when they're run off the road by a crazy driver, and roll the car they're in.

Figuring that the place is only another mile down the road, they prepare to set off on foot. The lead character pulls a flashlight for each of them out of his trunk, and then gets his pistol, checks it, puts it in his holster, and off they go.

When I immediately thought "What, no water?!", I realized I've been permanently corrupted converted.

Thank you.

The character carries four flashlights with functioning batteries in his truck.

That puts him in the 99th percentile of humanity.

CSI is only one hour long - who needs water? :-)

TV also teaches us that with a gun and really cool flashlight you're prepared - too bad he didn't also pull his BOB and put that on his back before setting out to start / complete his adventure.

Sad to say, I could pull 3 flashlights from my car, and am thinking of having a fourth on hand due to your post. I feel like a junkie...

I have two in my EDC, and a third is available in my briefcase. My minimal hiking gear has a headlamp.

Flashlights have gotten smaller, more dependable, and much easier to keep handy in the last few years - there is no reason not to have auxiliary light handy at all times.

The one on my keychain could easily serve me for an all night hike if necessary. it is superior in all respects to lights I actually used not very long ago.

Correction - I could pull 5 flashlights from my car, I forgot the two I have in my Red Cross Go Bag. Plus one Doug Ritter headlamp in there too, and one generally in my coat pocket. That's 7 lights in or near my car - I need serious help...

Keeping a reliable light really has become easier with advances in technology - I really like the solar powered flashlight that aloha turned us on to, those sit in my glove compartment and one in the passenger door side pocket, neither with any ill effect (they hold their charges a long time). I rotated the batteries on my AA flashlights with the change to daylight savings, and checked the solar powered for charging status (if low, just leave them on the seat for a day or two). I gotta say I like the solar charging approach more than batteries. Good stuff.

Ha! So true...unless it's part of a two-episode cliff hanger, end-of-the-season episode. Then their water needs would double--to two hours.

I like solar too, but I prefer a separate solar charger that will juice up my AA or AAA Nimh batteries. That way I can use just about anything - alkaline, rechargeable, or lithium in the light.

I prefer not to purchase battery powered electronics unless they can operate off of any of these types of batteries.

I need serious help - son #1 pointed to the AAA light on my keychain. I'm up to 8 lights on my person or in my vehicle. My addiction is complete. Is there a 12 step program for flashlight addicts, I hadn't even realized how complete my addiction had become.

"I admit I am powerless over my flashlights. That my life has become unmanageable."

There, there... (pat, pat, pat), it's okay. After all, it's only eight. Eight is hardly any. Just think, if you're stalled in a long tunnel, you'll be a hero.

LOL

YMMV

Well, if we're going there ( smile ):

Before I got the bug, I kept a light in the glove box and carried one in my EDC bag.

Now, there are three in the trunk (two in my GHB and one in my car tool bag), still one in the glove box, and three in my EDC bag.

(There's also a total of 4.8L of water in the trunk. But no guns.)

Flashlights in the car? How about just pull the battery, pull a headlight or two, use a seat belt to sling the battery, and wire up the headlights with a switch so I have a super dooper flashlight with a battery that'll last me about 3 days continuous use.

Damn, I love MacGyver.

I am very uncomfortable with this topic. I don't think I should have to count my flashlights; not the one on each keyring, not the six in the sailboat, not the one in my PSK, not the one in my PFAK, not the one in each of my other FAKs [none of your business how many!], and certainly not those in my BOB, vehicle, or other stashes.

I am not corrupted, I'm not, I'm not, I'M NOT!

Go away and leave me alone!

And I thought I was odd (well, maybe I am, but that's beside the point).

I have a flashlight on my keyring, one in each truck. Each small survival kit has one, the vests I have ready for us have one each; as well as a marker light not unlike a powered chem light; the BOBs have 2 each, with extra batteries. In the house I have a big maglite and a triple AAA for each of us, as well as one in the kitchen and one hanging next to the breaker box in the garage. Not counting the 8 solar lights outside. Or the coleman lantern in the garage. Or the 8 gazillion candles we have stashed (well, some are scented so they have a secondary use).

And what's funny is I have really good night vision and seldom if ever use a flashlight outside to wander around.

My name is Mark, and I am an addict...
*at the FAA - Flashlight Addicts Anonymous - meeting*
Begin counting ... one on personal keychain ... one on office keychain ... one on side desk at office ... at least one in each vehicle (sometimes two or three manage to get in there) ... three or four, maybe more I lost count, D-cell mag lites at the house (old school I know but what can I say - I'm older than the average bear) ... at least the same mini-mag lites - got tired of lugging out the D-cells - at the house ... three more led mini mags in three day pack size kits ... two cheapo head lamps to be replaced by three doug ritter head lamps, one of which I have on good authority that Santa is leaving in my son's stocking (what am I saying, I never throw anything away, the two cheapo headlamps will be relegated to non-essential, non-critical duties elsewhere) ... a multitude of mini led lights for small PSKs ... another LED light in media toolkit (mainly for use running fiber optic wires under dark stadium bleachers but comes in handy otherwise) ... another similar light by the door for pulling the plunger when the gas freezes off (have to remember to call the gas company and get those ancient regulators replaced) ... an old snake light at the back door that will likely be replaced soon now that I have thought about it ... and multitudes of battery powered camp lanterns that don't really count in this discussion but thought I would mention anyway - for KAG (Kicks And Grins smile ) ... I am sure I could think of some more if you give me enough time wink . "May God grant me the strength to restrain myself when the mag lite solitaire goes LED."

P.S. I think Santa has more for my stocking too. Happy Holidays

Hi, my name is also Mike..... and I too am a flashlight addict. Not counting the numerous models I have in-service at this time (I will guess 30, but I really have no idea), I also have a Rubbermaid tote in storage just labeled "Lights", and it is half full!

I furthered my flashlight problem today by ordering 2 more .... help me.... before my wife finds out my secret!

Mike

Flashaholic? Me?

Could NOT be, as I actually allowed a stash of 10 flashlights to hit the dumpster today when cleaning out Dad's place (ray-o-vac 2D mechanics lights, most with chips, cracks or downright grungy)

I was thinking how many are in the car right now and came up with 4, 2 Surefires, and a pair of Maglights. Of course, when I'm in the car, there is the ARC-AA on the keyring (Boy - has tech increased since those days, eh?), an EDC65 in my front left pocket (I remember when I got it - a pocket once cell at 65 Lumens - wow. Today - yawn, but have seen no reason to upgrade), plus the Arc LS (see above), the Tigerlight 501W, and another surefire in my jump bag, plus a mere 10-12 CR123s stashed in the truck, along with a bunch of AAs

I insist I do NOT have a problem, as I had NOT bought a light in like 2+ years till I just bought the tigerlight

In addition to the two flashlights on my person and the three within arm's reach in my laptop bag as I type this, I have no less than nine flashlights in the BOB I keep in my car: Two SO-LEDs (one red, one white), two fauxtons, another keychain coin cell light, two Fenix E01s, an Energizer headlamp, and a Fenix P2D 1x123 flashlight, with an L1D (1xAA) body. I also have a red filter and a white diffuser for the P2D. Not to mention twelve CR123A batteries and twelve Energizer Lithium AA batteries.

I'll run out of food and water way before I'll run out of lumens.

Denial is one of the first sign of a problem smile
But that's OK, the FAA meets on the 32nd of each month. Feel free to come to a meeting when you admit to yourself you need help wink
