Are there any other roleplayers out there?

As I have been browsing this forum, it has occurred to me how many similarities there are between the mentalities of roleplayers and people who prepare for emergencies.

How many times has my roleplaying group brought a 15ft collapsible pole (for when 10ft is not enough!), 150ft of rope, a bag of holding (the ULTIMATE PSK ), a magic ring that lets you breathe underwater, a map, etc.?

How many times have I wished I was playing a character that could disarm traps? (when the guy who is playing that character is ill)

Any roleplayers out there noticed this?

Ddraig,

You're right. It could probably be explained by our strong imaginations (which allows us to identify possible threats), wonderful creativity (which makes us natural jerry-riggers), and our love of good adventure stories (what and what not to do when faced with fire, floods, or rampaging army of hobgoblins).

Or maybe it's just that we really, really love a beautiful knife!

May you make all your saving throws.

Yep, I've played RPGs since '77.

Original "D&D" (still using the "Chainmail" combat tables ) was my gateway drug; leading to many others.

JT - Original D&D with Chaimail - you too, huh? I started about that time too - in fact, I met my wife playing D&D

We were using 3rd ed (a D20 system), but have given D and D a break and are currently saving the world (or failing to) in Rifts (a Palladium (sp?) game).

Its probably a good thing we're only playing, some of our plans have been truly terrible!

Funnily enough, rpg's is how I met my boyfriend...

Here's how muich of a geek I am: I've still got a "Dungeons & Dragons Fantasy Adventure Game Basic Rulebook" circa 1974. I'm also practically addicted to the PC RPG video game called Dungeon Siege, which is incredible.

I don't know if you count it as a role playing game but I am a big fan of Deus Ex. incredible, the missions are huge, the plots beyond complicated.
