The wife and I were talking about a 1 Year Self Sufficient Experiment where we would see if we could go 1 year w/out buying anything.

Obviously by being on this site we are not new to "being prepared"... however, we don't plan to cheat and go out and buy 1 years worth of canned goods and be good for the largest puzzle (food) for one year.

We want to treat the experiment as-if we were to continue living normal what we would need, what we would run out of, and be prepared to live "normal lives" for 1 year.

We also decided to start with a 1 month experiment, and then do maybe a 3 month, and then do a 1 year as we are "preparedness" people, and don't want to jump not-prepared into a 1 year experiment. Especially since the results of the 1 month will be similar on a smaller scale to the 1 year. This way we break it up, and can learn the small, obvious things first, and be more prepared for the longer test and report back the larger things we've learned.

-------------------
This post here is one stage of our experiment planning... we want to have the assistance of the Equipped Forum help us come up with a huge list of things they think we will run out of in one year.
-------------------

We are not doing this for the month as this data can be used for the year, month, two month, etc...

The point of this post is to do an analysis on what everyone thinks we need for a year, and make sure we are prepared, and then report what we actually needed, what we didn't, and what we had to buy more of.

This will be a huge multi-post on our blog, with many threads/posts here at ETS Forums for user interaction, opinion, etc.

---------------------------------

I beg of the posters to keep this thread on track in terms of coming up with lists of what you think one needs to have on hand for an entire year.

---------------------------------

Once we get a good list I`ll compile them, organize them, and then start new threads on certain items where we can analyze it more, break it down, and maybe even do some polls on how long certain things will last.

-Todd

The point of the experiment is not to see how much $ we can spend, and how many items we can afford to buy on this (soon to be) huge list it is however to see our failures in preparing, and what are commonly forgotten items among preparedness folk like everyone here.

Another huge thing I wan to learn is our consumption rate of all the things we buy.

IE: Paper plates, toilet paper, tooth paste, honey, etc.. So consumption rate, and when we run out of an item is another thing we will be reporting.

I also plan to break this down into a "his and hers" report to make it even more interesting wink wink

To Benjammin's authoritative list I would add: whatever supplies you need to keep shoes and boots in good condition.
