Looking for heavy (3-4 mil) 55 gal drum liners (in a reasonable purchase quantity - 1/2 dozen or so), preferrably bright color (orange?) to use as survival wrap. Does anyone know where to get these?

Closest I've found is http://www.bepreparedtosurvive.com/ShelterProducts.htm , scroll 3/4 down page to their "Orange Survival Bag". This item will work, but I was looking for something a little shorter to save a bit of weight (I could cut this one down to size however). Any other purchase sources that people have found?

Thanks!

Nabbed this from Rafowell's thread on signal mirrors:

http://outdoorsafe.com/cgi-bin/online/storepro.php

about three quarters of the way down the page--orange, 4 mil.

Standard disclaimers.

I was going to direct you to Peter Kummerfeldt's site but UncleGoo beat me to it. Keep in mind that the the bags Peter sells are great but they weigh about half a pound each. If you are shaving weight you might be better off with the AMK HeatSheets emergency bivy sack at 3.5 ounces. It is not as thick & bombproof as a 4-mil bag but it is much tougher, quieter and more repairable than the old school space blanket material.

I think it is a fair compromise for the weight (and space) conscious. Ounces turn into pounds, which turn into pain.

I buy these at my nearby Home Depot (A box at a time, not by the pallet):

I use them in the yard to bag leaves and they do not weigh much when put in a kit. I understand that they are only 1 mil and you want 3-4 mil but I have no complaints. Have used them a little backpacking and hunting with good results but never in what I'd call a survival situation.

The local WallyWorld has been selling large heavy-duty contractor bags in smaller boxes for under $10, but they're black. I guess you could pick up a few rolls of reflective tape...

Thanks everyone. This search-for-a-bag effort was mostly because I wanted to equip my new hiking enthusiast away-at-college daughter with some of the basics.

I happened to stop by the Army/Navy store this evening and purchased a few items - HeatSheets Emergency Bivy, Coughan's glass signal mirror, Storm whistle (they are much bigger than I expected!), a basic orienteering compass, waterproof match case (for cotton/vasoline), orange 550 paracord. I still need to buy more items - Frost's Mora Clipper knife, Firesteel, MicroPUR, LED headlamp, etc. You can see I'm not concerned about creating an ultra-mini sized collection.

I plan to put it all in some yet-to-be-purchased waterproof container and then put that inside a hydration pack and give it to her for Christmas. I'm thinking of this Camelbak pack: http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/791159 Pretty cheap at the REI Outlet and I saw one at the Army/Navy store and I was very impressed (the Army/Navy price was too high though). It was a very nice size for 3-season day hiking.

I still want to buy some kind of large poly bag (for myself now), but the daughter will get the bivy for now.
