This is certainly a good endeavor and is tax money well spent. However, I don't see a point in contacting my senator on the grounds I have very little faith in our government.

Not exercising your First Amendment freedom to petition the government for redress of grievances won't make it any more responsive to your concerns.
For kicks, write your two Senators and your representative and compare their staffs' efforts to assure you that they care what you think.
