So, the 60CSX can hookup to USB (apparently I did not pay attention) so I can download stuff to my PC.

However, when I plug it in I can't find it.
Help ?

My next question... how can I download my routes/tracks to Google Earth File ???

Your 60CSx should have come with software which will need to be on the PC. If you don't have the software (Mapsource), call Garmin on Monday and discuss with the techs.

You have four methods of getting data out of/into your Garmin 60CSX:

1. Mapsource (Windows Only)- Downloadable from Garmin Software Support without basemap.

2. Remove the MicroSD card and directly interface it to your computer for uploading map data or downloading track data (*.gpx files).

3. Plug in the USB cable. Turn on the 60CSX. Navigate to "Main Menu, Setup, Interface" and select USB MASS Storage option. The 60CSX will show up on a windows/linux machine as a removable hard drive.

4. Third party applications (i.e. GSAK, Viking, Google Earth, et al....) via the USB interface.

Options 1,3 and 4 may require drivers from Garmin Support Software for a windows machine to enable the USB support.

With Mapsource option, you may buy the external map packages from Garmin via Walmart et al... or you may roll your own maps (topo or streetmap) using USGS data or Openstreetmap data. I generally roll my own.

There are also some websites which provide the routable Openstreetmap data to you via a user selectable web page that allows you to drop a file onto your 60CSX and be instantly up without extensive tech know-how.

The gpx files which your Garmin 60CSX will produce may be imported into later versions of Google Earth. Mapsource can also export the downloaded data into Google Earth KML files or generic GPX files.

If your 60CSX isn't producing gpx files for track data, Navigate to "Main Menu, Tracks". Turn on "Track Log". Select "Setup". Select "DATA CARD SETUP". Enable "Log Track To Data card". This will archive all your travels by date to the microSD card for later retrieval via Option 3 above.

You may also want to download and install Garmin Web-Updater from the Garmin Software Support Site. This will auto-update the firmware in your 60CSX.

Hope this helps....

Paul

Edit Reason: added track archival option.
