I can't think of any disadvantage to getting an all-in-one radio for the parameters you described.
I used to have an AOR 1000 scanner/receiver that was almost 'DC to Daylight" in terms of reception range and it worked very well. Yaesu is a great company and I'm sure their product will perform just as good if not better.
