I work with electronics a every day in my line of work, and am red-green colorblind. I've adapted to it over the years quite well. I do what I call "comparison shopping", I can hold up two wires and see which one looks more brown or more red and I'd say I'm right about 99.999% of the time.

The main colors I have trouble with are dark green/brown, red/brown, and blue/purple.

We bought some spools of wire one time that had red, black, brown, and blue conductors in it. I was the only tech who could tell the difference in the brown and red conductors, and I'm also the only colorblind guy. A lot of it for me is in the darker versus lighter spectrum rather than hue.

I constantly see things that non-colorblind people have a hard or impossible time seeing, just don't hand me one of those colorblindness tests and ask me what I see in it. I see a bunch of friggin' dots, that's all, lol.

There is a red tinted contact lens you can put in your non-dominate eye that will fix a lot of that issue. See an optometrist. I used one when I was a tech many years ago. If the first eye doc says you are crazy, keep looking. Just be careful the first time you wear it. All the reds will amaze you. They are called brake lights, quit looking at them and stop the damn car.

I just got my eyesight tested again the other week and am happy to report that, at 46 yo, I still have 20/15 vision, and my spatial accuity is excellent. Nice to know since I took 2nd place at the local 22 lr long range competition 3 weeks ago. For all my faults, I am pretty happy about my eyesight, and my teeth (no cavities or gum disease despite a lower than average dental hygiene regimen).
