Update: My kids have been playing with a couple of these lights lately and I found one tonight that is dead. Not sure how that happened or what my daughter did to it. They took two, played with it for a week or two and left them in a dark place.

My guess is they left one on and it fully discharged and since it didn't have light, perhaps the solar battery died.

I tried putting batteries in it and it works under battery power. Will see how it goes after sitting in the sun tomorrow with the batteries installed. It didn't charge with no batteries in it.

I will also check with the manufacturer to see what they suggest and post back.
