Not a bad idea - an air horn would serve the same purpose.

Jeff:

You sound like you have one HAPPY dog!!! That rocks..

I have worked with Rottie Rescue and truely apreciate seeing a dog that goes everwhere with there owner. Both to see the quality of life,, and also to see that your dogs have jobs.

I believe that only applied to vehicles that used infrared transmitters. Nearly all vehicles these days have RF transmitters. I could find no scientific statement supporting it. I do not understand it, but I believe it was to help scatter the light to other objects that could reflect it. Maybe due to inherit inefficiency of the transmitter and receiver.

It could also have originated because of an instruction manual I found at archive.org. The title shows "Notes on training, field artillery details". It recommends "pressing the transmitter against the throat". It is for an old-style microphone and was for high-wind conditions. It only allowed the vibrations from the voice-box to be captured by the micrphone, it did not increase the range.

I think the government will be funding a multi-million dollar research project on this next year. In the mean time, how about just trying it yourself?

It works great on my RF remote.

Just hold the remote against your jaw pointing it at your head and press the button. Range increased.

We've probably given ourselves cancer but my friends and I have known this trick for twenty years. I never have looked for an explaination of why it works but it obivously does. I will admit that I haven't tried it in a long time. The remote I've had for the last several years has rediculous range anyway.
