Not sure if this is the proper place for it, so please feel free to move it.

One of the guys I play racquetball with has recently gotten some news coverage for this site www.trailnote.com. It looks to be a pretty nifty idea and hopefully someone here will find it useful.

Here is the link to the local news article.

That seems really useful, especially for the younger, single crowd or for spur of the momment trips. I didn't look closely, but can you fill out the form via a text message? That would be a very cool additional feature.

Meanwhile, my DW won't let me out the door without a detailed itinery stuck to the fridge. shocked

I just tried this out, and it works reasonably well. I think calling my wife on the phone when I get back to the trailhead works pretty well too though. Perhaps the advantage with trailnote.com is that you can notify multiple people simultaneously. It might also be useful if you were hiking in a foreign country where phone calls would be expensive.

Here, here.

Sorry, didn't mean to throw you there by resurrecting an old post. Things are a little slow these days on the forum, so I've been glancing at old posts.

I really enjoy roaming free over the land, seeking adventure and physical exercise. I often don't know where I'm heading before I am there - in particular if I roam around in a car, looking for good areas for a quick evening run.

My solution: I email from my phone a quick trip plan (where am I, where am I heading) to my wife's email account. If I am not due back when I am supposed to she can read all the details at her email. That way I don't have to wake her up (due to a medical condition she goes to bed early) with a text message.

This system is very good for my rather erratic short evening runs, but does not replace a proper game plane on longer trips. It can be used to post updates to existing game plans.

I've enabled Google Latitude on my phone, it sends position updates every few minutes so there is a trail to follow up to where I'm at.
