I have been reading the old posts in the forum and have a few observations. I mentioned that I don't leave home without superglue, my favorite is the gel, it is easier to work with, I have found it very handy for small repairs. I have read posts where people have complained that it is too dangerous, ie getting it in you eye, glueing your fingers together or to other things, and its toxicity. When I am in the backcountry, or anywhere else, for that matter, I have on my person a razor sharp benchmade afck, and a custom ruger vaquero in 45 colt, both of which I feel are much more dangerous than super glue!
I also haven't read anything about hats, hats are a great item to have, anykind of hat, and a good place to store stuff, I always have one on. They protect you from the sun, and keep you warmer, cooler, dryer and are cheap, well some are cheap. On the inside of my hat are several fishhooks, several needles, wrapped around under the sweatband are snare wire and fishing line, I use the wire and fishing line more for repairs than its intended purpose, the fishing line has been used to stitch up cut dogs. As I said, I spend alot of time in the backcountry and this stuff comes in handy. Chris

The idea of inherently dangerous objects is ,well, dangerous. Super glue, a firearm or knife are mere objects. Barring animist beliefs they have niether morals, philosophies or agendas. It's the other end of the equation ,us, that do. Clothing is the most survival item we have. The best dressed corpses are always wearing cotton. Ancient people were not hirsute brutes in crudely draped animal skins. Ancient engravings and the Oetzi mummy show us people who wore skillfully fabricated clothing and probably shaved. Gives one thought, avoiding people in shorts,flip-flops and logo burdened t-shirts behind the wheels of Duex ex Machinas that are niether sporting or utilitarian <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Chris,
I hear you, I am a big fan of Stupid Useless Vehicles that cost 40 large too. My wife wants one, but thats ok they are just cleverly disguised mini vans anyway.
I certainly am not trying to make anyone mad here but, I get the distinct impression that a lot of people haven't actually used the stuff they carry around with them, example, brass snare wire sucks, it is better than nothing but thats about it. I snared some muskrats that were wreaking havoc in a cornfield, they broke all the brass snares, I switched to aircraft cable on a swivel and solved the problem. I am just saying if you are betting your life on a piece of equipment you should be as proficient with it as possible and buy the best equipment you can afford, which I know has been said over and over. Thanks for a great site, Chris
